The Building and Construction Department enforces the New Jersey State Uniform Building Code and our local building and zoning codes. Before any construction or remodeling begins, an application must be made for a building permit. If you are contemplating doing any of the following work please call the Building and Construction Office first:
All permits must be obtained before work is started except for emergency replacement of furnaces, boilers and water heaters. The Building Department must be notified of the replacement at the time of installation and a permit obtained within 5 days. There is certain construction work that can be done without a permit such as laying floor tiles, painting, replacing same size windows and doors, repaving the driveway with the same material and retaining the same size. If you are in doubt, please call the Building Department at 732-842-3022 |

Understanding
Zoning
Some permits which require changes to the exterior of your property such as fences, pools, decks, tennis courts, additions, driveways, sheds, etc. will require review by the Zoning Officer. If your project requires zoning review and approval, you must apply for a ZONING PERMIT and pay the appropriate fee. Please bring a copy of your property survey so that the Zoning Officer can review your project for compliance with the Zoning Ordinance. If you cannot comply with the Zoning Ordinance for any reason, you must obtain a variance from the Zoning Board of Adjustment before you can begin your project. |
