Dr. Michael F. Lospinuso, became the newest member of the Rumson Borough Council during the February 8, 2022 Borough Council meeting.
Dr. Lospinuso is a well-respected Orthopedic Spine Surgeon in Red Bank. He relocated from The Hospital for Special Surgery, New York in 1990. He is one of the founding partners of The Orthopedic Institute, a single specialty multi-disciplinary surgical practice with multiple locations in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex Counties.
Dr. Lospinuso is a senior attending surgeon at Jersey Shore University Medical Center-Hackensack Meridian Health where he has held numerous leadership positions including Chief of Staff and Medical Staff President. He has also served as a Senior Vice President for the Physician Enterprise.
Dr. Lospinuso has served on the Rumson Borough Planning Board since 2004, including his role as board Chairman for the last 14 years. “The Planning Board and our Borough have seen many changes in the evolution of our town; I’m very thankful to all our volunteer members who serve to support our residents and acknowledge the vibrant history of Rumson.”
Following Ms. Laura Atwell’s resignation from Borough Council at the end of 2021, the Rumson Republican Committee nominated three residents as candidates to fill the vacant position. At the start of the January 18, 2022 Borough Council meeting, the Mayor and Council met in closed session to discuss the candidates. They unanimously decided that Dr. Lospinuso would be selected to finish out Ms. Atwell’s unexpired term.
“I am very pleased to have Dr. Lospinuso join the Council and give back to the community he loves,” Mayor Hemphill stated. “We look forward to working together to keep our town of the quality we all enjoy.”
Dr. Lospinuso was officially sworn in at the start of the February 8, 2022 virtual Borough Council meeting by Mayor Hemphill. He will serve on various Council Committees, including Rumson Affordable Housing, OEM, Public Works and Utilities, and the collective Public Buildings, Construction, Zoning and Engineering committee.
