On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Monmouth County and the Oceanic Bridge Project Team held Public Information Center Meeting No. 1 for the Local Preliminary Engineering (LPE) Phase of the Oceanic Bridge Replacement Project. The meeting provided residents and community stakeholders with an update on the project’s progress and an opportunity to learn more about the developing design.


The presentation included an overview of the project schedule, environmental and engineering work currently underway, and several updates to the Preferred Alternative. Topics discussed included the proposed 65-foot fixed bridge, changes to the bridge cross-section, a 14-foot shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists, proposed improvements on the Middletown approach, and potential pedestrian and bicycle connections between the bridge and Victory Park in Rumson. The Project Team also reviewed potential construction staging areas and the environmental review process.


The project is currently in the Local Preliminary Engineering Phase, which is anticipated to continue through Fall 2027. Final Design is currently anticipated to begin in 2028, while the construction schedule will be determined as the project advances through the design process. 


Residents who were unable to attend the meeting, or who would like to review the information in greater detail, can access the September 29 presentation slides, presentation boards, meeting recording, Frequently Asked Questions, project documents, maps and other materials on the official Monmouth County Oceanic Bridge Project website. A formal meeting report is expected to be posted following the conclusion of the public comment period. 


The public comment period remains open through Friday, October 30, 2026. Residents are encouraged to review the materials and provide comments or questions to the Project Team.
